The Shadow
Dear Friends,
Many of you hear me talk about “the shadow”.
This was an idea first put forth by Dr. Carl Jung, M.D., whose mystical understanding of life proved to be far ahead of the times. He was a colleague of Sigmund Freud, living in a time of great sexual repression and rigidity.
Here are some of my favorite quotes re the Shadow:
If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.
-Jesus
One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light but by making the darkness conscious.
-Carl Jung
The great epics of our lives are at the points when we gain courage to rebaptize our badness as the best in us.
-Friedrich Nietzsche
Most importantly, please remember that the shadow contains both positive and negative impressions/traits.
I work with clients who want to discover tendencies from their unconscious through work with Shadow. We work in this way through:
1. Observation
2. Journaling and Dreams
3. Self-Acceptance
4. Integration
The Carl Jung shadow refers to the unconscious, repressed, or unacknowledged parts of the personality—both negative and positive—that an individual hides from themselves and society. Integrating this "dark side" is essential for psychological wholeness, reducing unhealthy projections, and preventing unconscious, impulsive behavior.
Join us in discussing your motivations, what you tend to avoid or suppress, and your dreams; together, we can explore self-discovery and the synchronicity found within our shared experiences.
This is truly meaningful work.
And you are beautiful. All ways and always.
Love, Gopita
